Preston-born but Wigan-based, GLC RESILIENCE COACHING is run by Trauma Resilience and Recovery Coach Gemma Margerison. After five years working in various wellbeing-related roles, Gemma began to undertake a Professional Doctorate in Coaching and Mentoring at Oxford Brookes University in September 2019 and found that coaching brought together all her skills, interests, qualifications, and experience and so GLC RESILIENCE COACHING was born.
Since launching, Gemma’s professional practice has gone from strength to strength, working with clients from all walks of life in 1-2-1, group, and training environments. Gemma prides herself on having a calm, empathetic, and solution-focused approach to her work, and has been featured in the international collaborative publication Unzenable: A Guide to Stress Less and Be More.
After undertaking a BA (Hons) in Creative Writing and English Literature, Gemma spent the next three and a half years living and working in New Zealand as the Senior Reporter for a national newspaper. On return to the UK in 2013 Gemma began working for the local council where she supported a number of training and apprenticeship programmes, including working with former military personnel. Her interest in veteran wellbeing lead her to undertake a basic counselling qualification whilst doing additional research.
In 2015 Gemma was diagnosed with mild Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and began her own journey of recovery. Combining her interests in trauma and conflict with studying an MA in International Relations, Gemma wrote her dissertation on the reintegration of former child soldiers in Africa, which heavily featured mental health and wellbeing. After graduating in 2017, Gemma knew she wanted to go on to a PhD level qualification but unsure of which direction to take.
The following year Gemma became the Learner Engagement and Wellbeing Co-ordinator for an engineering company, providing training around Safeguarding, Wellbeing and Resilience to apprentices and graduates up and down the country. Gemma also began guest speaking at events and sharing some of her personal story in order to highlight the importance of seeking support. Gemma continues to use her own experiences to the benefit of others and hopes to complete her thesis around resilience as a recovery tool for trauma.
